“Truth is stranger than fiction, but not nearly as interesting,” is a thing that D.L. Eagan’s physicist father taught her. Although she grew up watching science fiction, she fell in love with historical romance in her teen years and started writing it when she ran out of books to read. Her writing career took a detour when she pursued accounting after college, but eventually she returned to her true love. In 2007, she published her first book with Kensington Publishing under the name Denise Eagan, and she thoroughly expected to be a happy historical romance writer for life.
Then she read The Hunger Games. And Divergent. And The Maze Runner. She became obsessed with dystopian fiction. For a few years, reading was enough, but over time she grew frustrated with how little information most books gave on the workings of the dystopian government. Finally in 2015 she had an idea that would allow her to explore that aspect: what if the one person who could take down the brutal dystopian government was married to the leader?
The PostPlague Trilogy was the result, in which she also incorporated her fascination with Meyers-Briggs testing, the horror of the 2014 Ebola epidemic, and her revulsion over rising racial hatred around the world. Now, with the completion of the final book in the trilogy, Eagan has started plotting a magic series, which will have much less death and a lot more humor.
